oops!

It would appear that I missed my own blogiversary. Well, happy blogiversary to me about a week and a half late (It was back on the 15th of this month.).

I actually had my 10,000th visit today! I just missed the actual 10,000, but hey, I'm not gonna complain.

A possible return to normal blogging

Now that Lent and Easter are over, there is at least the potential that I will return to normal blogging. My Lenten act of self-discipline was not to look at site meter during Lent and I accomplished that goal. Also, I greatly limited the time that I devoted to blogging/reading the news during Lent because I had other tasks that I wanted to try to accomplish during Lent. So, now that Lent is over, the potential returns of normal blogging, but we will just have to see how that potential develops.

I'm glad to hear it

CNN - Companies to pull ads from Coulter's Web site
At least three major companies want their ads pulled from Ann Coulter's Web site, following customer complaints about the right-wing commentator referring to Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards as a "faggot."
I'm glad to hear that her bigotry is costing her financially. That's the only thing has any chance of affecting her. I'm sure she won't change, because she's made a career out of acting that way and there are plenty of people out that want to hear her brand hate-based propaganda.

I did like the fact that the article credited a blogger with the withdrawal of the ads:
A diarist at the liberal blog DailyKos.com posted contact information for dozens of companies with ads on Coulter's site after the commentator made her remarks about Edwards at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington on Friday. (Full story)

"One of the best ways to communicate one's distaste for Coulter's repeated incidents of hate speech is to respectfully but firmly let her advertisers know you are deeply troubled by their indirect support of bigotry through their advertising on Coulter's Web site," the blogger VolvoDrivingLiberal wrote on DailyKos.com on Sunday.
Keep up the good work VolvoDrivingLiberal!

A beautiful Day

It is a beautiful day here in Troy, Alabama. One of the only advantages of living in the deep south is that you can get days in the mid-seventies in February. It is just too nice a day to say inside on the computer. Note to self: buy wireless router soon!

wireless blogging

I couldn't resist. I had to dash off a quick post wirelessly. I'm such a technology novice that it just seems cool to be blogging from a laptop at a coffee shop. And of course I had to check out the laptop before I drove all the way back to Troy with it. It would definitely take some getting used to.

Happy Fourth!

My blogfather turns 4 today. Well, actually his blog (Poliblog) does. I just wanted to say Happy Blogiversary and to wish him may more years of happy blogging.

In his "state of blog" post he notes some of the pluses he has realized through blogging. It is funny he should mention them, because I was recently thinking about some of those same things myself (although not all of the ones he mentions).

Sitemeter amusement

I like to periodically look at sitemeter and see how people are finding my site. The funniest referral recently was a google search for "experiences with taking off a hairpiece" (but not in quotation marks). Oddly enough, I was actually the 6th result on said google search. Who knows, thanks to this post, I might actually move up the list on that search.

The most common search that got people to my site was "fun words to say" thanks to this post.

Amusing

I was checking out some of the new features since I upgraded my blog template. Before if I clicked on a label that had more posts than would fit on the page there seemed to be no way to view the older posts. Now, with the upgrade, there is a link at the bottom of the page to the older posts. I was checking it out by looking at the posted labeled "personal interest" because there are so many of them. Anyway, when I got to this post I was amused by the picture of U2 at the bottom of the post. It just stuck me that it looks like Bono's crotch is offering a shining light to the world.

On a related note, I thought of a novelty t-shirt idea yesterday. It would say: "Help! My mind has fallen into the gutter and I can't get it out!"

A Friday Fun Challenge

It's really only a meme if someone copies it, so I'll just call it a Friday Fun Challenge. Here goes, look at your site meter and see what the last 5 visitors that reached your blog through a search engine were searching for. Here are mine:

1) hida scan
2) nessy - elephant?
3) alabama constitution "amendment 2" autauga county schools 10 mill
4) irrational women in relationships
5) alabama football coach "nick saban"

Join in and let me know what you found. It is always funny to me to see what people are searching for and how they accidentally find me.

Poliblog Update

I am pleased to report that Verizon has informed Poliblog owner Steven Taylor that they will be changing the name of their blog from poliblog to Policy Blog.

Congratulations Steven on your triumph over Verizon and their attempted thievery!

Show your support!

Steven Taylor is having some issues with Verizon over the name poliblog. It would appear that Verizon thinks it is appropriate to steal the name of an established blog and use it as their own. Get the whole story at the REAL Poliblog. Show your support by linking to his blog and getting the word out in the blogosphere.

More blogrolling strangeness

I don't know exactly what happened at 16:21:37 GMT yesterday (or even when that is exactly in CDT), but for some reason most blogs in the blogosphere appear to have updated at that very moment. All the blogs in my blogroll did. Most in Poliblog's blogroll did too. I don't know what's going on, but I hope they get their ducks in a row soon.

Isn't it ironic?

I find it highly ironic that blogger's spell check feature doesn't recognize the words "blog", "blogging" or "blogger". Go figure.

What do you think?

As I approach graduation, I've begun to think about the road that lies ahead. Once I get my MSIR degree, my ambition is to someday teach, whether it be as an adjunct at Troy or at a junior college in the area or something. I was thinking about what I would want to require my students to do and I had an idea. Could I make them blog?

My husband is an English professor, and he makes his freshman comp students keep a journal, just to make them write and think about writing. He grades them on whether they do it or not, not on the content. I was wondering if I could do that with a blog.

Would it be okay to create a class blog and require each student to be a weekly contributor? The idea would be that they would have to read, and comment on in a scholarly way, at least one class relevant news article per week. They would then receive a participation grade for doing it. What do the blogging professors out there, or blogging students for that matter, think of the idea? Would it fly or not? Please, tell me what you think.

Update-It's working

It's nice to see that blogrolling is back up and functioning. I checked their website and can't find any explanation for the outage. I'm happy that it's working again though.

Just checking

Just a quick post to see if I'm updating with blogrolling.

This was only a test.

In case of an actual blog post you would be notified of some interesting personal information or news story.

We will now returned to our regularly scheduled web surfing.

Happy Blogiversary!

I just wanted to say happy blogiversary to Sheri over at A Glass of Sheri. It's her blog's first birthday.

An interesting blog

I found this blog today that I thought was interesting. I have to agree with the sentiment, but as long as we have a Rebuplican controlled Congress it ain't gonna happen. But he deserves it way more than Clinton ever did!!!

Irrational Woman - A Year Later

Well, today is my first birthday, or at least my blog's first birthday. I must confess, it's been a bumpy year. There have been periods of fairly regular blogging and months with only one or three posts. It's been fun, but I've found that avid blogging is something I don't really have the time for. I've decided to blog what I want when I want and not worry about how often that is or how many people read it. Maybe some day I'll find my true voice, but for now I'll just keep trudging through.
